Cambodia Airports continues to promote local artists with international training and exhibitions
Photography show at French Culture Institute depicts Phnom Penh at its most intimate and iconic.
Cambodia Airports has been at the forefront of promoting artistic expression in the Kingdom with the recent exhibition at the French Culture Institute demonstrating the increasing sophistication and freedom of local artists.
The carefully designed and curated project began with a workshop led by renowned photographer Ms. Lola Reboud who encouraged the young photographers who to focus on capturing images that ranged from the intimate to the iconic. Participants were also encouraged to discuss each other’s work, including technique, atmosphere and subjects.
The photographs depict events and situations that at first glance might seem everyday, but when viewed in sequence the series – called “Portraits” – creates an indelible perspective of a rapidly changing city and culture where intimate connections between people and places continue to resonate.
Encouraging artistic expression is one of the most vital components of Cambodia Airports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. It has sponsored Studio images for four years, allowing it to bring French photographers as artists in residence twice a year to lead workshops that result in exhibits like "Portraits", which was inaugurated by Minister of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Phoeurng Sackona.
The company’s pioneering promotion of the visual arts includes its long-time partnership with the annual Phnom Penh Photo, as well as a groundbreaking exhibition of Battambang-based artists at Phnom Penh International Airport. That exhibition drew international attention to artists from a town that has since acquired a reputation for producing many of Cambodia’s most respected artists.
