New Policy for Drop-Offs at Phnom Penh Airport Explained
As the airport opens its drop-off lane to all, we take this opportunity to discuss our new regulations.
Phnom Penh International recently embraced a new drop-off and express lane system that better meets the needs of all who visit the airport.
There are several benefits: all cars are now permitted to enter the sheltered drop-off lane closest to the departure terminal, ensuring easy and equal access to the terminal for all customers. Where before all cars entering the passenger drop-off zone paid a minimum of 2,000 riel, or $0.50, to enter the lane, all cars can now enter the drop-off area free of charge for the first 10 minutes.
However, in order to ensure that all passengers reach their destinations with minimum hassle, it is now policy to charge all vehicles that remain in the drop-off lane for longer than 10 minutes.
There has been some confusion regarding the new drop-off policy, and for this Cambodia Airports extends its sincere apologies. After a period of consideration, we have altered our policy - along with the fees associated with it - and would like to explain the process in full.
For those that remain in the drop-off lane for longer than 10 minutes, new regulatory fees are now in place: for cars that remain up to 15 minutes, a minimum cost of 2,000 riel will be charged depending on vehicle class. After the first 15 minutes, a minimum $1 fee will be incurred for every additional 5 minutes spent in the drop-off lane. A complete table of rates for different vehicle classes can be found on our website.
Cars that remain too long in the lane, therefore, can incur considerable accumulated costs.
For subscribers to the airport’s prepaid svay cards, the process will be seamless: users can scan their svay cards upon entry and exit of the lane, and any fees incurred will be automatically retrieved from their prepaid svay credit.
For those without svay cards, any fees must be paid at one of the many payment machines that have been installed in the car park.
With these new regulations, we hope that drop-offs at Phnom Penh International will be easier and smoother for all passengers as they continue on their respective journeys.
