Highlighting safety and infrastructure
Investments focus on safety, efficiency and the ability to smoothly handle an increase in flights and passengers.
In Siem Reap upgrades included resurfacing the runway and widening its shoulders from 2.5 to 7.5 meters to increase safety and prepare for an increase in flights. The airfield lights and guidance were replaced with LED lighting to increase energy efficiency. A new runway end safety area (RESA 05) was added, while RESA 23 was upgraded.
New taxiways were also constructed to handle future increases in traffic. All construction work was completed on May 11.
At Sihanouk International Airport, new underground fuel storage facilities (for gasoline as well as diesel) were also installed between January and April. They now safely store fuel for airport vehicles and ensure international best practices in environmental protection.
A new catering service for airlines was also introduced at the airport, with the arrival of global company Gate Gourmet which started operating at the beginning of June.
Focus on Fire safety
At the same time, our employees have had further training, including drills, in safety. Every Cambodia Airports employee has undergone fire safety training, while our airport rescue and firefighting (ARFF) teams at all three airports continue to receive training on international best practices to ensure ongoing compliance with national and international regulations.
These tests extend to protective equipment for personnel, as well as vehicles, equipment, tools and materials.
Each member of the ARFF teams undergoes annual medical checkups, physical tests, professional drills and written exams to ensure they are perfectly equipped to perform their duties.
“The objective of this annual certification is to ensure the operational readiness of all ARFF employees, so that our staff continue to maintain their physical fitness and mental ability to perform their job,” explained Cambodia Airports CEO Eric Delobel. “We take the safety of our staff very seriously and believe this is one of the reasons why they are able to focus so carefully on the safety of our airports and guests,” he explained, adding that Cambodia Airports was proud to be a leader in occupational health and safety in the region.
