Passengers at Cambodia Airports surpass 8 million for the first time last year
Banner year for airports follows strategic expansion to handle surge in passengers in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.
Last year will be remembered for milestones achieved as well as the groundwork laid for enhancing the growth and dynamism of Cambodia's swiftly developing economy.
Cambodia Airports celebrated the 8 million mark in passenger traffic in December, an achievement that has ripple effects throughout the kingdom in terms of job creation and investment. Research shows that 1.7 million jobs and 17 percent of GDP are linked to the three international airports. Their expansion plays a vital role in the kingdom's future social-economic development.
This is why Cambodia Airports was intimately involved in the Cambodia Travel Mart 2017 in Siem Reap last November. The event drew hundreds of tourism executives from around the globe to the kingdom's premier tourist destination, allowing them to see first-hand the fusion of ancient wonders and modern facilities that are integral to the town's rising appeal.
High-profile ceremonies were also held to mark the inauguration of the newly expanded facilities at Phnom Penh International Airport, receiving widespread media coverage domestically and throughout the region. Cambodia's social-economic development depends to a large degree on international airports, which is why their sustainable growth is key to Cambodia Airports’ mission.
