TRAFFIC TRENDS
A banner year and a banner December
The three airports ended the year on a high note, with just shy of 1,000,000 million passengers traveling in December and an overall increase for the years 2018 and 2019 in their entirety year-on-year of 10%.

Cambodian coast to capital
When looking at service from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, two of Cambodia’s major airlines to offer the flight – Lanmei Airlines and Cambodia Angkor Air – posted really low load capacities in December. But from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh they’re showing very high load factors for the same month. So it’s not that the airlines aren’t doing well; it’s just that Phnom Penh proved to draw people from the beaches to the capital and environs.
Seoul connects to Siem Reap
Though Siem Reap has had a nearly 22% decrease in traffic this year, Air Seoul will be increasing flight frequencies. Air Seoul saw an 11% increase of passengers in 2019 while Korean tourists were the second largest nationality (after Chinese) to visit the city over the year – and likely those numbers are going to go up! Additionally, flights from Phnom Penh to Angkor on Lanmei and Cambodia Airways have increased service and see high load factors as well as a route from Sihanoukville operated by JC Airlines.
Can’t hold us down
Cargo is continuing a strong upward trend in Phnom Penh, with huge increases with Eva Air, Asiana Airlines, Spring Airlines, Qatar Airways Cargo, Emirates, Cathay Dragon, and China Southern. Only Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines have seen a slight decrease in December, but it’s the first month for those two airlines to see a decrease.
