Cambodia Airports is dedicated to ensuring a green future for all
Once again we marked World Environment Day this year by highlighting the eco-friendly safeguards that underpin our sustainable business model and by engaging the customers and communities we serve in ensuring a green future for Cambodia. As leader in environmental protection, Cambodia Airports celebrated Environment Day (June 5) with a week of carefully planned events encouraging nationwide efforts to reduce waste and protect nature. We highlighted the critical importance we place on preserving nature by inviting like-minded organizations as well as teachers, youths and children to demonstrate how protecting the environment is a year-round commitment.
These activities are part of parent company VINCI Airports industry-leading initiative, Air Pact which sets four ambitious goals for 2020 that apply to all of its: obtaining airport carbon accreditation, reducing energy intensity by 20 percent, surveying biodiversity and obtaining ISO 14 001 certification.
All three of our airports have already achieved Carbon Accreditation Level 1, while green solutions are embedded in our investments in infrastructure, including wastewater treatment facilities, energy efficiency and recycling.
This year we kicked off our corporate and community-awareness campaign with a clean-up walk around the gates of our car park. We also met with shop tenants at each airport to find ways to reduce the use of plastic. On World Environment Day we met with primary school students to explain the harmful effects of waste, following up a day later with a competition that saw more than 200 students submit drawings depicting the importance of protecting the environment. Each drawing was displayed on Facebook with viewers asked to select three winners.
Environmental protection associations were also invited to promote their projects and campaigns at Siem Reap International Airport, while six new youth Environmental Ambassadors were appointed to ensure our environmental protection remains a year-round commitment.
“At Cambodia Airports we believe that our leadership role in promoting environmental protection goes far beyond the safeguards embedded in our infrastructure and business model,” explained the company’s CEO. “We believe we have an obligation to mobilize our stakeholders and lead by example. This is why we hold activities on International Environment Day that ensure protecting nature is a lifelong process,” Mr. Delobel explained.
